The Cock and the Fox

A Fox was caught in a trap one fine morning because he had got too near the Farmer’s hen house. No doubt he was hungry, but that was not an excuse for stealing. A Cock, rising early, discovered what had happened. He knew the Fox could not get at him, so he went a little closer to get a good look at his enemy.

The Fox, desperate for a way out, quickly began to devise a clever plan. With a charming smile on his face and a hint of desperation in his voice, he turned to the Cock and said, “Dear friend, please hear me out. I was on my way to visit a sick relative when I stumbled into this string and got all tangled up. It was a complete accident, I assure you. But please, I beg of you, do not tell anybody about this unfortunate incident. You see, I truly dislike causing sorrow to anybody, and I am sure that with a little time and effort, I can soon gnaw this string to pieces and be free again.”

However, the Cock was not so easily fooled by the Fox’s tricky words. Deep in his heart, he knew that the Fox was up to no good. He had heard tales of the Fox’s cunning tactics and deceitful nature, and he simply could not trust him. Realising that the safety of the entire hen yard was at stake, the Cock made a bold decision.

In a burst of loud crowing, the Cock roused the whole hen yard from their peaceful slumber. The hens squawked in alarm, their feathers ruffled with fear, as they quickly gathered around to assess the situation. The loud commotion caught the attention of the Farmer, who came running out of his house to see what all the fuss was about.

As soon as the Farmer arrived, he saw the trapped Fox and understood the gravity of the situation. Without hesitation, he swiftly approached the trapped creature, ensuring that it would no longer pose a threat to his precious hens. And just like that, the Fox’s deceitful attempt to escape came to an abrupt end.

With the Farmer’s intervention, the hen yard returned to its usual state of calm and peace. The hens clucked contentedly, grateful for the Cock’s vigilance and quick thinking. And as for Mr. Fox, well, he learned a valuable lesson about the consequences of his actions.

This fable reminds us of the importance of staying vigilant and not falling for the tricks of those who seek to deceive us. It teaches us that honesty and integrity will always prevail, even in the face of cunning and deceit. So let us be like the brave Cock, standing up against dishonesty and protecting what is rightfully ours.

As for the cock not helping the fox: The wicked deserve no aid.
